Miniature Self-Diagnosis:

Safety First

Keep these two important, possibly life-threatening signs in mind and please put your and your family's safety before all else. We will come to your home ASAP if there is a serious issue. It may be better to wait for the professionals at ACS.

    1. If you are seeing or smelling smoke, DIAL 911. Get the Fire Department there immediately. When they leave, shut off your system, but only if safe to do so.       2.If you smell a burning smell at any point during your self diagnosis, turn it off IMMEDIATELY and call us!

Unit is not turning on or running:

   1. If your thermostat has a display on it, is there any thing shown (such as the temperature)?
If it is blank, check your circuit breaker in your utility box to see if it is tripped or switched to “off”. Even if it is in the "on" position, reset the fuse by flipping the switch off then on again.

   2. Is the power switch on the thermostat turned to on?
If not, turn it on.

   3. Is the fan blowing or is there air coming out of the vents in the house?
If the answer is no, and you have performed the above suggestions, then call us to schedule an appointment to diagnose your unit professionally.
If yes but the air is not cold, then your unit may need to be reset. To reset your unit, find where the electricity comes to your unit there should be another breaker there, reset it. IMPORTANT – only do this once! If the system's direct power switch flips itself again, there is a serious issue. At this point, call us to schedule an appointment (520)696-1800 because serious injury or damage may occur. Please allow us to get a professional into your home.

A power outage, "brown out," or serious lightning storm occurred:

   1. Turn your thermostat power to the “off” position and your circuit breaker in the utility box off. Leave off for about 10 minutes then turn back on. if there is an issue still with your HVAC system please call us and we will do what we can to safely fix your issue.

After your cooling or heating unit starts, do you experience headaches or nausea?

   1. In this case, please turn your unit off immediately and call us to come test the unit for abnormal Carbon Monoxide levels being emitted. CO is odorless and potentially life threatening, so let us fix this problem for you, please!

Remember this page is only to help you with simple issues, this is in no way a suggestion you try and fix your own HVAC units. There are over a thousand volts in some HVAC units. DO NOT try and open a unit or take anything apart!
